SUMMARY
The Estimator will review specifications, blueprints/drawings; applies federal, state and local requirements to generate project estimates using estimating and other industry-specific software (HCSS or similar); leverage historical data on labor, materials, equipment and other factors used to generate total cost estimates; interact with actual and prospective clients to develop, improve and maintain improve business relationships; and understand clients’ needs and provides creative, cost-effective, safe solutions to solve clients’ challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include – but are not limited to – the following:
Prioritizes work to meet broader estimating schedule as provided by Chief Estimator.
Provides progress reports to senior management; reviews team’s work for accuracy.
Effectively builds and maintains client relationships with clients, as well as with vendors and subcontractors.
Establishes new relationships with clients, vendors and subcontractors.
Partners with clients and provides preliminary site alternatives and budgeting.
Reads and understands digital and printed plans, specifications, and related documents.
Performs quantity take-offs (volumetric, linear, area) from plans for earthwork and utilities.
Collects and reviews pricing from vendors and subcontractors, making initial decisions on construction partners (vendors/subcontractors); applies knowledge of regulations and requirements to verify subcontractor and vendor compliance with specifications/plans.
Uses historical database of project performance to ensure take-off quantities are realistic.
Meets daily with Estimators to review scope of work (SOW), sequence of construction, gather updates on take-off process and progress, ensure bids are documented and records are accurate/complete
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
4-year degree in civil engineering or construction management + 2 years of civil construction estimating and/or engineering experience
Works collaboratively and cooperatively in a team setting.
Proficient with Windows, web browsers and MS-Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint).
Proficient with Civil Estimating Software: Heavy Bid, Agtek, ACTIVE Takeoff (or similar).
Meets strict deadlines in a high-volume business environment.
Able to use office equipment: fax/scanner/printer/copier, telephone (cell/desktop), PC or tablet.
Willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Has/gets valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record. NOTE: A satisfactory background check may be required.
