We are located on the Kubli Bench, high above the Applegate River in the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon. Troon Vineyard is a biodiverse farm of almost 100 acres that includes cider apples, a permaculture-style food forest, vegetable and herb gardens, re-wilded honey bees, sheep, chickens, wildlife, dogs, humans and, of course, grapevines.

Our ideal candidate is a passionate, experienced farmer capable of managing the dynamic day-to-day operations of the vegetable gardens, including the greenhouse/nursery and post-harvest processing station. Additional support and oversight will be provided for the rotational grazing of livestock and poultry, orchard management, creation and maintenance of wildlife habitat, composting, and other specialized or seasonal projects. The Assistant Farm Manager will report to the Director of Agriculture. They will work closely with the Farm Manager, and alongside the field team and farm apprentices.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Agriculture with the coordination of crew and resources to complete daily priorities.
• Safely operate farm equipment, e.g. tractors and implements, electric- and gas-powered tools, hand tools, etc.
• Install, repair and manage irrigation.
• Assist with equipment maintenance, repairs, and winterization.
• Work with field staff to maintain clear production records, including planting and harvest dates, yields, inputs, daily tasks, etc.
• Provide administrative support, e.g. ordering supplies, researching best practices, and managing to-do lists and activity logs.
• Attend weekly team meetings and provide farm updates for other departments. Occasionally facilitate meetings when the Director of Agriculture is unavailable.
• Support staff professional development, training, and education in biodynamic and regenerative agriculture.
• Engage politely and enthusiastically with winery guests, VIPs, industry professionals, and media/journalists, and occasionally provide educational tours and interviews.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years of Biodynamic/Regenerative vegetable, herb and flower growing experience
• Valid driver’s license
• Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50 lbs
• Must be able to sit, bend, crawl, kneel, and reach
• Must be able to climb ladders and stairs
• Must be able to navigate and traverse uneven terrain in adverse weather
• Familiar with Google Workspace (e.g. Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets)
• Familiar with Biodynamic and ROC standards (preferred)
• Fluent in Spanish (preferred) and English (required)
