The mission of the Teaching + Learning Commons (the Commons) is to advance student success through teaching excellence and comprehensive academic student support; to be an incubator for student academic success innovations; to increase access to education on campus and beyond; and to advance equity and inclusion within the organization and through its programs and services. The Commons’ work encompasses four areas: instructor support to advance teaching excellence; undergraduate and graduate student support to advance student success at UC San Diego and beyond; intellectual and professional development of graduate and undergraduate students, including Commons’ student employees; and equity and inclusion for all UC San Diego students, staff, and educators.

Under the general direction of the Faculty Director, the Special Projects Coordinator assists the team with project planning, statements of work, and project deliverables. The Coordinator partners and collaborates to support UC San Diego’s creation of an equity-based teaching and learning success ecosystem; provides project-specific administration; supports programmatic and infrastructure activities, and serves as point of contact for collaborating and aligning with community and institutional partners.
The Coordinator assists the Faculty Director in project development and implementation, research and analysis, special event planning and implementation, and the coordination of projects, advancement opportunities, and grant applications.
The Special Projects Coordinator uses skills as a seasoned, equity-minded, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues; and demonstrates good judgment in selecting equity-focused methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The incumbent primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope, and develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Experience with project management processes and fundamentals.
Proven experience utilizing and implementing project management approaches and tools, monitoring all aspects of assigned projects from development through implementation, and creating work plans and timelines to ensure timely completion of projects.
Experience in managing complex calendars, coordinate meetings, prepare reports, business letters/memos, and meeting minutes which address research, training goals and task objectives.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates the ability to provide comprehensive recommendations and solutions that address project needs with tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and cultural humility.
Analytical / problem-solving skills. Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to recognize potential problems, independently resolve problems, communicate higher level problems to supervisor/PIs, evaluate and suggest solutions and recommendations, and develop and initiate plans to complete goals and assignments efficiently and effectively.
Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, to follow through with superior attention to detail, and to complete tasks in a timely manner by a specified deadline.
Ability to maintain accuracy and focus with attention to detail in fast-paced, highly-collaborative environment with dynamic priorities.

Ability to work with multiple stake holders across a wide range of disciplines.
