POSITION PURPOSE
This position can be fully remote or based out of our headquarters on Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles. In this role, you will be part of a fantastic team dedicated to delivering on the University Credit Union’s Service Promises and Core Values, engaging in behaviors that exceed our Members expectations and create lasting Member loyalty. You will contribute to the team’s overall success by achieving service level activities and quality goals through the identification of process and program enhancements designed to satisfy our Members’ needs.
Specifically, you will determine the level of risk associated with consumer loan applications (auto loans, personal loans, credit cards) coming into the Credit Union through a variety of channels, determining whether to approve, deny, or offer alternatives to the request, while following the Credit Union’s underwriting guidelines. You will work with our Member Services team to explain our credit policies to our Members, and to obtain all necessary loan information and documentation.
Your goal will be to build a strongly-performing loan portfolio, with delinquencies and charge offs kept at acceptable levels to the Credit Union, while maintaining satisfactory approval and denial ratios. You will evaluate the Member’s existing relationship with the Credit Union, their credit history, their debt ratio, their loan-to-value ratio, in addition to a number of other factors that contribute to determination of creditworthiness. You will structure loan requests, determining and securing the appropriate documentation for approved loans. Consistently evaluating financial risk in accordance with the credit union’s underwriting policies, you will ensure adherence to the Credit Union lending procedures and philosophies. With authority to approve loans up to pre-determined lending limits, you will only escalate applications of the highest complexity and risk to the Senior Loans Officers, Assistant Vice President of Consumer Lending and Chief Lending Officer, along with your informed recommendations.

ROLE DESCRIPTION
Evaluate, authorize, and make informed and solid lending decisions based on the Internal Standard Operating Procedures, Board Policies and as governed by Federal and State Regulations.
a) Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of consumer lending products, services, and regulations. Calculate and explain debt-to-income ratio, identify opportunities on the credit report, and clearly and effectively communicate terms and conditions for ancillary products (debt protection, GAP, etc.) to meet compliance and accuracy standards.
b) Review completed loan applications referred by MCC and Credit Union Advisor Centers. Create, process, and make decisions on loan applications received through the mail, or automated telephone system. Interview loan applicants to gather information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition. Analyze applicant’s current financial position to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Use the on-line loan application system to approve or deny a loan based on creditworthiness, ability to repay, stability and credit score.
c) Provide consultative services to Members regarding Credit Union products and services to understand Members needs, enabling their needs, preferences and concerns to be correctly determined and the right solutions to be delivered and agreed with them.
d) Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the Consumer Lending Standard Operating Procedures.
e) Discuss disputed loan decisions, including investigating and proposing appropriate alternate solutions for the Member. Research and resolve Member concerns with respect to all aspects of Member service goodwill and any applicable Federal or State Regulations.
f) Analyze loan applications and pertinent Member financial and credit data. Approve or deny loans within assigned authority level.
g) Ensure all loan requests are properly documented. Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of regulatory compliance related to Member services and financial services area to include (but not limited to): BSA reporting requirements, OFAC, USA Patriot ACT, Red Flags, Regulation CC, Regulation D, Regulation E, Truth in Savings, Truth in Lending, Privacy, etc.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and communication with area personnel and with management.
a) Assist area personnel as needed. Assist other Loan Officers.
b) Assist with Loan Processor training as appropriate and provide technical guidance to less-experienced personnel.
c) Complete reports and records promptly and accurately.
d) Attend meetings as required.
e) Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant challenges or issues. Actively support UCU Core Values, Mission and Vision statements, and demonstrate commitment to Member service and UCU organizational success.
Responsible for related duties as required or assigned.
a) Stay informed regarding local and national economic conditions and legal and regulatory changes.
b) Ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, and security of work area, desk, equipment, etc.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
1. Lending functions are effectively performed in accordance with established Credit Union policies and with legal and regulatory requirements. Delinquencies and charge offs are expected to be maintained at an acceptable level. Approval and denial ratios are at acceptable levels.
2. Good business relations with Members are maintained. Programs and services are properly and thoroughly explained and Members’ needs are accurately assessed. Members’ concerns or questions are courteously and promptly resolved.
3. Required reports are accurate and timely.
4. Good working relationships exist with area personnel and with management. Area personnel are assisted as needed.
5. Credit applications and related financial data are closely and effectively analyzed and evaluated.
6. Personal delinquency write-off numbers are in line with Credit Union objectives.
Education/Certification: You should be a High school graduate with 3 – 5 years of related experience.
Required Knowledge: Knowledge of lending policies, procedures and regulations, ideally in a Credit Union environment.
Understanding of related legal and regulatory standards, and required loan documentation.
Knowledge of consumer lending and credit practices (auto loans, personal loans, credit cards).
Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication skills, strong listening skills, strong verbal skills and able to convey complex matters in a clear and helpful
manner to Members. Well developed interpersonal skills.
Professional appearance and attitude.
Strong analytical, financial and practical math skills.
Ability to operate related computer applications, and other business equipment including calculators, keyboard, printer, telephone,
and notary stamp.
Strong keyboard skills.
