Six Month Fixed-Term Assignment

The University piloted the Summer Start programme in 2021 and it is now an established part of Kōkiri Raumati | Summer Programmes to welcome new students.

Summer Start is a six-week programme giving eligible school-leavers the opportunity to gain credits towards their degree, give them a boost to their current preparation and provide wrap-around academic and pastoral support with a comprehensive co-curricular programme enabling them to make new friends and make a positive start to their University journey.

Summer Start is aimed at increasing students’ preparedness for, and success from, their tertiary study. If students are planning to study with the University of Auckland, they can get a head start on their studies by joining us for Summer Start.

We are currently seeking applications for a Summer Start – Student Experience Advisor. This position is an exciting opportunity to build on the pilot and to contribute to the development and implementation of the Summer Start programme.

The Student Experience Advisor is a key member of the Summer Start team and helps provide opportunities and access to services that engage, develop and support students through the student lifecycle and improve the student experience.

Some key responsibilities include:

• Facilitate development programmes & initiatives such as transition programmes, leadership programmes, community service and volunteering, and student support funds.
• Deliver effective support and transition programmes such as mentoring programmes, First Year Experience and orientation activities.
• Deliver & publicise high quality events that celebrate student success including graduation, awards and prize giving.
• Attend staff/student committees & represent student interests in faculty initiatives.
• Coordinate student communications, wellbeing initiatives, community placement programmes and international exchange agreements.
• Assist, support and develop new initiatives to improve the student experience.
• Gather and review feedback from all key stakeholders on the effectiveness of programmes and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service through reliable, efficient and accurate execution of service deliverables.

This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week, fixed term for 5-6 months. The salary range for this role is $54,700 – $68,200 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

• Experience in implementing projects and transitioning students to the university
• Experience in recruitment and engagement with secondary schools or kura is preferred
• Experience working with students and delivering academic development and support
• Skills in relationship building in diverse communities and understanding of equity issues
• Experience and understanding of opportunities and responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Ability in working cooperatively
• Excellent communication skills
• Understanding of the school leavers journey
