We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Librarian to deliver high quality and user focused services as part of a small and friendly library team in the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Library (AMES Library). The AMES Library can accommodate around 100 readers and has a wide range of collections, including archive collections.
The Assistant Librarian will possess excellent communication skills; experience of providing excellent customer service; use their own initiative to suggest new ideas and take a creative approach to the role; excellent IT skills and able to work as part of a team.
The Assistant Librarian will have a high command of at least one of the languages in the Middle East taught by the Faculty and utilise the language skill to assist the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Librarian in providing support to the undergraduate and postgraduate students and academic colleagues of the department of Middle Eastern Studies. In addition, they will contribute to the resource selection activities of the Middle Eastern Studies collection.
Reporting to the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Librarian, they will supervise the front desk service on a day-to-day basis, assist with the preparation of duty rotas, deliver user inductions and ensure that the library offers a welcoming and inclusive environment.
You will have previous experience of working in an academic or research focused environment. Professional or postgraduate qualification in librarianship is desirable but not essential. There will be many training opportunities provided by the University to gain the knowledge required for the role.
