Summary of the role
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a commitment to supporting students to join our team in the new role of Widening Participation Admissions Officer.
This role supports the University’s efforts to widen participation to students from under-represented and disadvantaged backgrounds by providing expert advice and guidance to students and admissions tutors to help informed decision making throughout the admissions process.
Working closely with colleagues across the Student Access, Recruitment and Admissions service, the post will take a leading role in assessing the suitability of applicants applying from under-represented student groups, providing expert guidance to admissions tutors and dealing with complex enquiries, especially from those students with non-traditional qualifications.
Involved in outreach with key student groups, such as participants on our Mature Access Pathway, the postholder will design and deliver accurate and specialist information to support student decision making. They will also work to ensure effective admissions processes and workflows are in place to support under-represented students and provide expert guidance to assist admissions and policy decisions, for example in relation to contextual offers.
Occasional weekend/additional/evening working will be required as part of the role. This is to assist with tasks such as outreach, summer s schools, open days, confirmation and clearing. The post will work equally across the Access, Participation and Outreach team and Admissions team, taking on an important bridging role to provide seamless support for under-represented students.
