Job Description:
The Stephen C. O’Connell Center is seeking an HR Generalist II. This position reports to the O’Connell Center Associate Director and acts as the direct supervisor for the Employee Relations Office (ERO) assistants. The position performs human resource administration tasks including, but not limited to, hire paperwork facilitation, employee file management, employee scheduling, uniform and equipment inventory/maintenance, support of employee morale functions and assistance with the hire/orientation process. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Part-time Office Assistant Supervision:
Maintains filing system of correspondence, event files, subject files, and personnel records. Prepares and processes paperwork for hiring and maintains employment records. Sets up and updates part-time workforce information, pay rates, classes attended, certifications, and awards in both PeopleSoft and in-house software. Tracks the training records of all full and part time staff to ensure all staff have completed or renewed any required training. Prepares worker’s compensation training for newly promoted staff during supervisor orientation. Supervises, hires, trains, evaluates and terminates part-time office assistants. Handles and records the maintenance and repairs of all radios. Maintains truck and van mileage logs. Processes worker’s compensation claims and reports.
Staff Scheduling:
Coordinates staffing for OPS technical and event personnel for various activities according to job type (athletic, concerts, lectures, etc.) and employee experience/skill level. In conjunction with the other HR Generalist II (HRG2), reviews event staff scheduling for proper staffing levels and proposes solutions to understaffed events. Leads efforts in arrangement of outside groups and volunteers as needed to fill positions. Makes recommendations to management regarding human resource issues such as staffing, recruitment and employee relations. Manages and updates e-mail, Facebook, contact lists, and other systems that inform students of work available and/or any current information in conjunction with the other HRG2. Conducts daily management of staff scheduling software.
General Part-Time Staff Management for 500-member workforce:
Leads efforts in evaluating employment status for part-time employees using minimum requirements tracking, bi-weekly check-ins, and supervisory feedback. Issues reprimands, commendations, and handles corrective behavioral actions as appropriate. Processes security credential checkout including placing orders for picture badges, assigning badges to employees, and issuing keys. Purchases, issues, tracks, and maintains all part time and full-time employee uniforms. Places holds/flags on employee records for unreturned inventory. Maintains an employee listserv and other means of mass communication with all staff members in conjunction with other HRG2. Reports on safety issues and prompts corrective actions when needed.
Employee Morale and Retention:
Supports HRG2 in creating and implementing multiple team-building functions. Creates and analyzes multiple staff surveys each year Solicits, collects and follows up on feedback from the staff. Solicits, collects and follows up on feedback from the staff. Works in conjunction with other HRG2 to develop incentives and recommend policy changes to improve retention rates.
Hiring:
Assists with the hiring, orientation, and training of the O’Connell Center of up to 500 part-time staff, interns, and volunteers.
Other:
Performs other duties as deemed necessary by the Associate Director and Director. Assists with the supervision of interns in the Associate Director’s and Human Resources Generalist II absence. Works closely with the other Human Resources Generalist II to collaborate on projects and to act as backup in their absence. When requested, tracks funds for students on Federal Work Study. Acts as Field Experience Coordinator working closely with College of Health & Human Performance. Supports the other HRG2 in Merchandise Liaison responsibilities.
Required to work a non-standard work week including normal office hours, some nights, weekends and holidays. Some travel may be necessary to attend recruiting events or attend conferences.
Expected Salary:
$44,000 – $50,000 annually
Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two year of appropriate experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient computer skills; excellent people skills. Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization preferred. Introductory skills with the PeopleSoft program are preferred. Notary public or willingness to become a notary public required. Scheduling experience, event experience, and extensive office and computer experience is highly desirable.
