The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) is currently recruiting for aFront-End Engineer (Web Developer). Essential Functions: * This position is responsible for general design, development, documentation and implementation of web applications to meet the needs of the University, school, or department. * Development of website interactivity features using JavaScript and and proficiency with at least two major frameworks (Angular, Vue.js, React, Bootstrap, JQuery, etc). * Create and modify websites using the latest standards for HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). * Use responsive design principles to ensure that applications and pages adjust appropriately to the device they are being viewed on. * Ability to use version control systems such as Subversion and GitHub. * Perform testing and debugging using contemporary tools and frameworks (Mocha, Jasmine, Puppeteer, etc…) to ensure sites and pages operate correctly across a variety of scenarios. * Use CSS pre-processing languages and frameworks (SCSS, Sass, Less, etc) to improve the styling of applications and increase efficiency and productivity. * Assist in the development of new websites in an incremental manner (sketches, mockups, and treatments to working markup). * Participate in initial planning meetings, as needed, to understand the requirements for each project. Education:Bachelors in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Administration, Computer Engineering or a related field. Experience:Minimum experience requires knowledge of at least one (1) structured programming languages and relational database management systems. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures (i.e., SQL, C , HTML, ColdFusion, CGI and JavaScript/VBScript, IIS, ASP, PHP, .NET, Perl, Python, and Index Server). Other:May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. Equivalent of four (4) years combination of formal information systems & web education/training and/or web experience and knowledge of at least one (1) structured programming languages and relational database management systems. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to communicate with colleagues, project managers and engineers as necessary. * The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with internal teams. * General interest in computers and an aptitude for learning new technology. As technology, particularly on the web and internet, continue to develop, the employee will be required to stay current. * High level of organization in order for deadlines to be met. * Familiarity with blogging engines and content management systems such as WordPress. * An understanding of assistive technologies, color blindness issues, and their relationship to web design and UI/UX. * Ability to add graphic functional input to any project as requested. * Must possess strong problem solving skills. * Provide photo and videographic support at events such as seminars and symposia. * An interest in learning and perfecting User Interaction (UI) and User Experience (UX) for interactive and electronic web and other applications.
