The University of Michigan Library in Ann Arbor is one of the world’s largest academic research libraries. The Library Operations Physical Collections and Access department provides access to and maintains the library’s physical collections, including the nearly 8 million physical items housed in Hatcher, Shapiro, Buhr, the Research Museum Center, and our offsite shelving facilities..
As an important member of the Library Operations Physical Collections and Access team, the Offsite Shelving and Withdrawals Assistant advances the mission of the library by helping patrons, faculty and staff access valuable library materials. This staff member will be responsible for physical collections maintenance at several offsite shelving facilities, driving a University vehicle between facilities each day, and processing and withdrawing materials being removed from the library’s physical collection.. A valid driver’s license is required.

Process library materials being sent to offsite shelving facilities.
Process and withdraw library materials being removed from the library’s collection.
Perform regular physical collections maintenance to the library’s collections such as shelving, shifting, sorting, and pulling materials.
Identify project work areas for physical collections maintenance
Review and correct cataloging errors for materials in the collection.
High School Graduate or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
A valid driver’s license.
Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to adapt and respond to different types of questions and situations.

Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.

The weekly schedule is expected to be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This position will be responsible for driving a University vehicle between facilities each day. Work schedules may be modified based on operational needs.
The person in this position routinely moves through the building to access materials. The person would need to regularly ascend/descend ladders to retrieve materials. They must be able to navigate the facility using the stairs. They must have the ability to move and/or transport materials that weigh up to 25 pounds.
