The Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI) is an exciting initiative creating major new opportunities for science and advances in human health, and now aims to recruit a Lead for Education and Training who will lead and further develop the training and education provided by the Institute. The scope of the role will include the review of our post-graduate education vision, and the expansion and strengthening of our objectives and outputs, consistent with the long-term success of the Institute.
Areas of existing strength include a newly launched INEOS Oxbridge Doctoral Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance, a collaboration that integrates the expertise and capabilities of two Universities that are globally recognised for excellence in health science research. This is funded by the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI), with six studentships it its first year, which are fully funded for 3.5 years from Autumn 2023. Add link to advert. The successful applicant will be responsible for the success of the first student cohort including management of all aspects of the initiative, and the development of years 2 and 3 intake.
The Institute is looking to expand its education offering beyond the PhD/DPhil initiative. The successful applicant will have scope to develop their ideas and could include the development of short courses on antimicrobial resistance, drug development or related subjects; through collaboration with the University of Oxford Department for Continuing Education; and through the development of seminar series that provide new synergies between disciplines and departments. Collaboration with other institutions and education programmes, both within and beyond Oxford, will be encouraged.
The Lead for Education and Training will be a full-time role and will be supported by an Academic Programmes Officer (Grade 6) and Institute administrators who work as a team across the IOI.

We contribute significantly to basic knowledge of antimicrobial resistance and apply research methods to identify new antibiotics and explore new potential antimicrobial agents. The successful applicant will hold a PhD in a topic that is broadly relevant to the IOI which can include study in the fields of biological sciences, social sciences and policy, with an interest in antimicrobial resistance and antibiotics. As well as having a strong track record in the development and successful delivery of programmes of postgraduate education, which could be in the field of antimicrobial resistance, drug development, or broadly related areas. Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work effectively with the senior leaders are also essential.
This is a fixed term, full time position and is available immediately.
