Teaching, Learning, and Leading – Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh – (23005156) We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate who will join a dynamic center nested within local, regional, national, and global knowledge networks in writing and literacies studies; as well as a multidisciplinary lab focusing on local information ecosystems and resiliency to disinformation. The successful candidate will actively contribute to ongoing projects and research in writing and literacy studies with a focus on community-based engagement and research, pedagogy, writing and literacy teaching and learning, and digital literacy. Specifically, 50 percent of the Postdoctoral Associate’s duties will be to carry out scholarly research under the direction of Dr. Khirsten L. Scott and to participate in the scholarly activities of the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project, HYPE Media, and DBLAC. Key activities will include: (1) serving as a collaborator on existing and developing projects (e.g., supporting data collection and evaluation, program evaluation, writing study results, developing materials for dissemination, etc.); (2) grant writing and application submission; (3) maintaining a current understanding of literature, practices, and events connected to projects and programs. The remaining 50 percent of the post-doctoral research scholar’s appointment will be with the Pitt Disinformation Lab (PDL) at Pitt Cyber. In this role, the successful applicant will work closely with the multidisciplinary faculty, staff, and students at the Pitt Disinformation Lab at Pitt Cyber. Key activities will include (1) leading the development of an archival and coding system for social media materials; (2) developing materials to build information literacy and disinformation resilience for key civic institutions and leaders; and (3) research and programmatic efforts related to disinformation and strengthening local information ecosystems, independently and in concert with PDL faculty. PDL works with communities to build resilience to systems of dis/mis/mal-information. The lab fuses computational tools with community engagement to focus attention on the real-world harms exacerbated by the illusion of unbiased digital communications and how a recognition of the person-to-person and material reality of social media ecosystems can improve decision-making and democracy. Required: Completion of doctoral studies in literacy and writing studies, or a related field. Completed Ph.D. is required. Experience on research teams focused on critical literacies, dis/mis/mal-information, and Black education. Experience in university-school partnerships and community-based programming.
