Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
With general direction provides staff assistance in a Human Resources section by performing such duties as interviewing terminations, responding to union requests for information and meetings, administering and scoring employment tests, conducting orientation sessions for new hires, initiating reports and surveys by contacting sources outside of the University, drafting position descriptions and monitoring unemployment compensation claims. Promotes the HR Experience through the HR Values of Respect, Integrity, Inclusion, Performance Excellence and Engagement. Consistently demonstrates the 15 HR Experience Behaviors categorized under the five dimensions of ‘One Inclusive Team, Performance Excellence, Leading with Integrity, The HR Experts and Valued Customer Resource.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:
May coordinate work of other regular or student clerical staff.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
None.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Conducts exit interviews by discussing reasons for separation with terminating staff members.
Arranges grievance hearings and conferences between union and University representatives as provided in agreements.
Drafts new and revised nonexempt position descriptions based on observation and discussion of work performed.
Administers and scores achievement and skills tests to determine qualifications for employment.
Processes unemployment compensation claims to meet time schedules imposed by law and monitor claims to determine validity and recommend appeals.
Conducts orientation sessions for groups of new nonexempt hires using a slide presentation and responding to questions regarding University Human Resources programs and collective bargaining agreements.
Conducts and responds to compensation and benefit surveys involving oral and written contacts with sources outside the University.
Types from written drafts and recorded dictation. Composes non-routine memos, letters and notices for approval. Accumulates and records information for standard reports. Sets up and maintains filing systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
2 years of post High School education or equivalent experience. 2 years in Human Resources or related functions. No experience required with a Baccalaureate degree.
