Create, develop, and edit content for multiple communications projects , including web, newsletters, brochures, reports, presentations, toolkits, and social media. This may require interviewing employees, researching topics, and gathering art to be featured with stories.
Design internal monthly newsletter using desktop publishing software.
Post and design content for internal website (currently SharePoint) and possibly an external-facing website. Interface with ITS web production teams as needed.
Generate ideas for content, art, and other communications related to employee engagement and recognition, and for ITS projects and initiatives.
Monitor ITS HR email inbox and route or respond to ITS staff inquiries about policy and procedures for HR, Administration, the ITS department, UW Medicine, and the University of Washington.
Support the HR team on ITS’ Career Pathways compensation project and other initiatives, which includes, but is not limited to, updating SharePoint pages, data entry, and preparing and sending communications.
Communicate with ITS staff on a range of matters, including compliance and other requirements.
Assist with Public Records Requests
Assist with Recruiting and Selection activities.
Assist with Employee Engagement activities.
Assist with Safety and Facilities activities, including covering ITS Front Desk as needed.
Personnel filling – Ensure that documents are stored securely, depending on their type (hard copy vs. electronic).
Collaborate effectively and as part of a team.
Perform additional duties as assigned that fall within the reasonable scope of this position.
Currently enrolled college student who meets enrollment eligibility requirements.
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint a plus).
Desktop publishing skills – May include Microsoft Publisher, Adobe InDesign, or other similar software.
Creativity and ability to visualize and produce content based on concepts and ideas.
Ability to independently exercise editorial judgment.
Strong attention to detail and an eye for design.
Ability to work independently; able to capture information and follow instructions that may be very detailed or conceptual and broad.
Solid professional judgment and discretion in working with sensitive and confidential information.
Ability to work well with others in team processes.
This position will require a regular schedule of 19.5 hours per week (while classes are in session). Hours are flexible, and the work can be done 100% remotely, though there may be an occasional need to work in our office in downtown Seattle.

UW Medicine’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Primary Care (UWPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM) and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Children’s). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.
