This post is full time, 35 hours per week and is fixed term until September 2023.
The School of Finance and accounting is recruiting an academic Student Coach with the skills to successfully initiate a pilot project that aims to transform and further enhance the experiences and outcomes of our students. The ASC will also take a key role within the school to identify and address the needs of students who need help to overcome barriers to learning and assist the academics in the personal tutoring and support of students.
The ASC will identify students at risk of disengaging, reach out to them, and coach them towards academic success, signposting them towards effective study and towards appropriate support from a professional and comprehensively skilled team of fellow professionals, both academics and other specialists.
The successful candidate will run coaching and advice sessions either face to face or online, identify cohort trends and work with individuals who are identified as being at risk of dropping out or failing in their studies. You will also respond in a timely way to student self-referrals, using a Learning Management based Support, monitoring and reporting (Blackboard) system that we pioneered successfully past year. This post will focus on areas of attendance, engagement, progression and completion. You will be committed to ensure our students have optimum chances of reaching academic goals that also help them to thrive/excel at university. This is a rewarding responsibility requiring you to creatively and innovatively deploy your strengths and areas of specialist expertise and use these to inspire, lead, advise and support students.
This is a pilot project, initially for a period of one year from Sept 2022, with the objective to succeed in our aims to sustain the effort to extend the scheme across other Schools in the university.
Westminster Business School prides itself on the quality of the student experience. Candidates must be qualified to degree level. It will be helpful, though not essential, if you have gained, or are working towards a Masters degree or other Postgraduate qualification, as you will be working with both undergraduates and postgraduates. Experience in coaching students at this level in a similar institution, or perhaps in an FE or other adult learning space, is an advantage. You will be working independently, but within a small and established team in the College that includes Senior Tutors, subject specialist academics and course leaders.
You will be part of the School of Finance and Accounting, working directly with the Head of School to deliver the operational plan in relation to meeting our student experience and outcomes goals.
