UP Education Hiring for Accountant Job at Auckland Full Time

About the role:

In this key role, you will be responsible for providing financial and administrative services to the Group Financial Controller. You will also provide support services to the wider business including divisional finance managers. The position covers most standard business accounting functions with specific areas of focus around financial reporting and compliance.

You will undertake a range of different tasks to respond to the needs of the business. Timely and accurate preparation of monthly draft financial statements and supporting schedules for management will be expected.

Some of your key responsibilities are as follows:

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts within month-end reporting deadlines, including monitoring, analysing and reporting against budget and prior year comparatives
• Ensure separate fixed asset registers are maintained for each entity, ensuring accuracy and that they satisfy statutory requirements
• Assist Group FC in managing overall cashflow of the business, working closely with Divisional Finance Managers to ensure all funding requirements are met
• Assist Group FC with year-end tax calculations and filing of income tax returns in New Zealand and Australia
• Preparation, review and filing of Group GST and FBT returns
• Assist the Group FC in preparation of accurate consolidated Group budgets and re-forecasts
• Liaise with the Property team monthly to ensure that all new leases and changes to existing leases are reflected in the Group lease management system (Nomos One)
• Review of monthly IFRS 16 Lease reports in Nomos One

About you:

To be successful in this challenging and rewarding role, you will have solid experience in financial accounting and ideally be CA qualified but it’s not essential. You must also possess the following attributes:

• Minimum of 5 years of financial accounting experience
• Experienced in technical accounting – taxation and IFRS
• High competence in working with Excel spreadsheets,
• A high level of analytical skills, systems/data analysis and a strong attention to detail
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Strong ethical and moral values
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
