Description
Purpose:
This role would be an Ophthalmic Technician I within the outpatient suite at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. This role will work on a team of technicians and physicians and will be responsible for working up patients as well as other administrative tasks. This individual is responsible for providing chairside patient assistance performing and retrieving all pertinent information needed for physician to diagnose and treat patients. Some experience as an Ophthalmic Technician working up patients and with some imaging preferred but not required. Administrative work scheduling, Prescription refills, prior authorizations also will be part of this role. The equipment used at Children’s including: Stereo Vision, Color Vision, Distance and Near Vision, Refracting. We will consider all levels of the career ladder. The final title and pay will determined be experience and certification.
Responsibilities:
Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.
Demonstrated ability to perform fundus, external photos, slit lamp photos, Ascan (sonomed, iol master & Lenstar) topography, OCT
Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
Lensometry & Keratometry: automated and manual
Supplemental skills: pachymetry, calibrating biometry instruments, Schirmers, Rose Bengal, glare testing, color testing
Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions
Refractometry: manifest refractometry & auto-refractor, transposing scripts
Angle assessment & proper dilation of pupils.
Ocular Motility: functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus
Tonometry: Goldmann, Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each
Visual fields: Amsler grid, confrontation fields, automated perimetry
Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required
One year experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
COA certificate required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
