Vacation Trip Guides Hiring for Freelance Proofreader at Remote Full Time

We are currently seeking a Proofreader/Copywriter responsible for managing the team’s proofing projects and processes as well as training the team on proofing standards to maintain consistency and excellence in this area of our practice. The position includes proofreading employee benefits, marketing and communication consulting communications as well as generating copy for monthly health and wellness-centered employee communications and custom employer-to-employee messaging.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Proofread employee benefits communications for spelling, sentence structure and technical accuracy, making note of in-house style guidelines and client-specific preferences. Confirming that edits made by designer were in fact made correctly.
• Assist with the selection of, training of and communication among seasonal freelance proofreaders. Experience with conducting onboarding training of staffers as well as freelance proofreaders, including creating and updating how-to’s, checklists, PowerPoint slides and tutorials. Create proofing exercises to sharpen staff’s skills and address specific knowledge gaps. Knowledge tracking seasonal freelance proofreaders to ensure files continue moving between team members to meet deadlines.
• With supervisor input, maintain the in-house Communication Consulting Style Guide to reflect AP and company style updates affecting usage. You are the resident AP expert and go-to source for applying style and answering team questions.
• Continually improve and streamline our proofing processes and find ways to be more efficient. Work with manager to identify any roadblocks or challenges and brainstorm how to eliminate them.
• Assist in researching and creating copy for monthly health and wellness-centered employee communications as well as additional projects as a need develops.
• Assist internal and external clients with communications strategies.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed. Tasks include, but are not limited to, project tracking, project spreadsheet upkeep and file maintenance.
• Meet all deadlines set by the Assistant Vice President, Communication Consulting.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Proofreading experience reading materials word for word and identifying errors missed in earlier rounds to ensure the final product is error-free. Knowledge of the health care or benefits industry helpful but not required.
• Proficiency proofing in Word with track changes and with PDF documents, working knowledge of ProofHQ helpful but not required
• Strong copywriting skills; familiarity with the wellness, health care and insurance industries a plus. Familiarity with writing marketing-style materials that are engaging, informational and appropriate for the intended audience.
• Solid grasp of AP Style and experience proofing to specific in-house or client preferences. This includes ability to make judgement calls and problem solve, question word choice, ensure correct spelling and grammar usage as well as spotting style inconsistencies in documents.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative setting and accepting constructive feedback
• Familiarity with Basecamp or other similar web-based project management programs but not required
• Organized and uses established methods to track multiple proofing requests that can come in simultaneously. With supervisor, determine priorities and assign overflow projects to freelancers and manage their workflow to ensure deadlines are met or adjusted.
• Able to keep track of incoming client files and emails and be able to find them quickly if a question comes up
• Detail oriented and able to spot style inconsistencies within large multi-page guides, make marks or comments that provide clear instructions or suggestions
• Excellent communication skills with experience reaching out for more information, clarification, additional tools or assistance if needed
• Proven ability to follow instructions and processes to complete assignments, requesting clarification if needed
• Able to stay cool under pressure and on deadline

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $22.06 – $34.81 per hour
