Job/Position Summary:
The Pre-registration Clerk is responsible for preregistering scheduled outpatient and surgical patients. Makes call to insurance companies to verify eligibility benefits and precertification requirements. Validating the authorization given for that particular procedure. Determine patient responsibility and initiate point of service (POS) collections prior to services. Will assist with scheduling patients for out-patient testing as needed. Will function as the liaison and resource person for physicians, office staff and auxiliary departments. Obtain information pertinent to the preregistration process from the physician offices and the patient.
Sign On Bonus Eligibility Requirements:
The sign on bonus is available for full-time positions.
This sign on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past one year.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers the phones as required within the department.
Preregisters patients for surgical or outpatient testing procedures.
Verifies insurance benefits and initiates point of service (POS) collections over the phone.
Update department information as scheduling changes are made and communicates this information to all parties involved.
Ability to verbally communicate clearly, effectively and professionally.
Ability to work accurately with frequent interruptions and prioritize work load.
Maintain a positive, pleasant and helpful attitude towards patients, physician and their staff, and co-workers.
