Summary The Interior Designer serves in the Projects Section of Facilities Management Service, at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Tampa, FL. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION The duties may include but are not limited to the following: Develops a Master Five Year Interior Design Plan for the medical center by coordinating all aspects of the program. Utilizes technical software to maintain accurate records of projects in all stages from planning and design through completion, through use of computer aided designs programs, maintains furniture in inventories of items in service. Prepares requests for additional furnishings with records of delivery location. Develops master painting schedule and color selections for the medical center. Develops a furniture replacement program for the medical center. Schedules areas for replacement and/or upgrading and determines the proper furnishings, and accessories necessary to complete the interior design scheme for the area. Designs and develops written specifications for fabrication and installation of window treatments, stage draperies, etc. Conducts systematic evaluations of program aspects to assure requirements and standards of the Department of Veterans Affairs are followed. Evaluates and determines the disposition of new, excess, replacement and damaged furniture/furnishings throughout the medical center. Coordinates the pick-up and delivery of such items with responsible officials. Maintains records on delivery, storage and disposition of these items. Prepares the necessary paper-work for repairs, redistribution and tum-Âins to the Financial and Logistics Management Service as applicable. Develops and maintains a comprehensive resource library of interior design literature. Prepares and maintains Interior Design budget for major, minor construction projects and Interior Design Fund Control Points. Qualifications Education: Having a Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study — interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least thirty (30) semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. OR Specialized Experience: experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment. Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning, and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings. Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context. Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: having successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, with a major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least thirty (30) semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. One (1) year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, eighteen (18) semester hours should be considered as satisfying the one (1) year of full-time study requirement. Additional Information Physical Requirements: This is a very active position requiring dexterity related to computer work, drafting, drawing, inspecting and visiting project construction sites, etc.. Work will require long periods of sitting at times and long periods of walking or standing at other times.
