Victoria and Albert Museum Hiring for Technical Lead, V&A East at South Kensington Full Time

The Estate team brings together expertise in technical services, engineering, surveying and housekeeping and ensures that the buildings are safe, always fit for purpose and beautifully presented.

We manage a number of conservation, restoration and refurbishment projects, and also manage all back of house spaces and facilities, working with colleagues across the whole organisation.

We also play an integral role in the delivery of capital projects – including the new developments across the V&A estate in London and further afield.

The Technical Lead, V&A East is a new, critical role which will be responsible for providing engineering expertise and knowledge to the portfolio of V&A sites in East London:

• Young V&A (previously known as the Museum of Childhood), Bethnal Green, London: Currently under full refurbishment with a complete transformation of the existing museum, including new MEP infrastructure and full fit-out of all spaces.
• The Storehouse, Stratford, London: a new collection and research centre which will house the millions of objects held by the V&A. Under construction within an existing building.
• V&A East Museum, Stratford, London: a brand-new museum focused on showcasing under-represented movements and voices. Currently under construction

Pre-opening: the Technical Lead, V&A East will monitor work on site, ensuring what is built is fit for operational purpose and fulfils the requirements of the brief and design. They will play a critical role in leading a smooth hand over and bringing the sites into the operational control of the V&A Estate department. Acting as a client representative, they will report on what is being delivered, raising any issues or concerns to the relevant project team to ensure the buildings meet expectations.

Post-opening: continue to ensure the highest standards of quality and workmanship by monitoring the performance of the buildings and the appointed maintenance contractors, ensuring the buildings are fit for purpose and operating at their full potential.
