About the role:

As our Lead Software Engineer, you have the crucial role of establishing our software engineering processes and standards, and championing our new agile ways of working.

You will lead our DevOps team to build and maintain solutions for our first responders to:

• manage critical incidents and state-wide events (including natural disasters),
• support proactive policing in the community, and
• assist specialist units tackling issues such as youth offending, road safety, and cybercrime
• what you and your team create will transform modern frontline policing.

Your duties will include:

You and your team will be working with a variety of leaders including police from across the organisation, our intelligence practitioners, and senior management.

• Research, conceptualise, and develop technology solutions we need to keep the community safe
• Establish and continuously develop internal Victoria Police DevOps capability and practices
• Lead, manage and coach a team of software engineers, embedding an agile culture
• Collaborate with product managers to prioritise application development aligned with product roadmaps
• Work with technology and business stakeholders in pipeline / backlog management
• Prioritisation of application development enhancement requirements.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

As our ideal candidate for this role, you would have had a strong professional foundation in software development and engineering and have established yourself as highly capable of leading and managing high performing DevOps teams.

• Tertiary qualifictions in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related disciplinesOver 5 years’ experience in software engineering
• Minimum 2 years managing and leading an agile delivery team
• Proven ability in establishing, leading, and coaching a team of technical specialists
• Demonstrated experience effectively engaging and working with senior stakeholders
• Advanced knowledge and thought leadership in agile ways of working, and embedding an agile culture
• Application development expertise in a variety of programming languages and platforms, including modern low code platforms (e.g. Microsoft PowerApps).

Requirements and relevant information:

• One (1) full time, fxed term (3 years) position available.
• VPSG6 salary range $125,893 – $168,473 p.a. plus superannuation.
• Position location Victoria Police Centre. 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
• Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
• The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
• The incumbent of the position may be required to be on stand-by/recall outside the ordinary hours of duty. Allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
