VMware Tanzu Labs (formerly Pivotal Labs) is a leading software consultancy founded in Silicon Valley in 1989. We have over 30 years experience working with over half of Fortune 500 companies to become leaders in the digital economy.
The ANZ App Services team is composed of Product Managers, Product Designers, and Software Engineers. We are based in Sydney, but also collaborate a lot with other offices in the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore, Japan and Korea.
We partner with organisations to build and modernise digital products, leveraging Lean Product Management, User Centred Design, and Extreme Programming practices. We are hungry to learn, love sharing what we know, and we are supported by active communities of practice. We strive for diverse teams because we know they are the most successful. We like to keep things simple, do what works, and treat each other with respect and kindness.
Our principles are:
Ready to build? So are we! Come join us to help customers build, run and manage their most important applications, helping them not only build great software but modernise existing, mission-critical software into cloud-native applications. We build applications with velocity to run in a cloud-native environment, run open-source Kubernetes with consistency, and manage our customers’ entire footprint with confidence to help them achieve their business outcomes. VMware Tanzu Labs is a recognised leader in software modernisation.
Our Software Engineers embrace Extreme Programming (XP) as a way to go fast forever and deliver remarkable results. Our product managers and product designers work side-by-side with our engineers in small, empowered, autonomous teams, using Lean and User-Centred Design as complementary product development practices. We measure success by making our customers more productive, as software developers, product managers, and product designers. We enable our customers to build high quality products and own their modernisation journey.
Software Engineers in our ANZ Application Services team work with many of the region’s most influential companies and agencies. Our approach is constantly evolving and is informed by over 30 years of experience and continuous improvement and blends agile/XP with Domain-Driven Design and cutting-edge cloud-native application transformation strategies. This is a consulting role that requires you to be able to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues on cross-functional product teams. You’ll need strong communication skills, technical fluency, empathy, humility, and an appreciation for and understanding of lean startup, agile, and user-centered design values, principles, and practices.
As a software engineer, you will pair daily with client software engineers, coaching them in Extreme Programming (XP) methodologies, such as pair programming, test-driven development, and continuous integration and delivery. You will work with a team of product managers, designers, and engineers to enable your client team to deliver and iterate on high-quality software products that deliver user and business value.
Tanzu Labs is a global organisation and the Sydney Office services clients across all of Australia and New Zealand. In addition, we often work closely with our Singapore, Japan and Korea offices to deliver success for clients across the Asia Pacific region.

Like many companies, the COVID pandemic has changed how we work. We are fortunate to be capable of running a strong business in a 100% remote working environment. However, we believe that the fastest way to build authentic relationships is in person. Our role as consultants requires us to work well with new teammates on many types of engagements. We navigate large customer organisations, facilitate team building and work towards shared goals. We’ve found that we can do this remotely, but it is faster when we are co-located. Kicking off customer engagements in-person also fosters happier and more productive remote days. We expect in-person collaboration at one of our offices, or at the customer’s site, which will require travel of 10-25%.
