Role

Volunteer Alberta is seeking a marketing wiz who is enthusiastic, organized, accountable, innovative, and resourceful. This position requires a candidate able to exercise good judgement and initiative in completing tasks and broader initiatives and be able to work with a high degree of independence and accountability.

The Marketing Assistant provides marketing and communications support for Volunteer Alberta (VA) by implementing and supporting the efficient day-to-day communications and stakeholder relations.

While this position plays a role in all of the Strategic Priorities, it specifically advances Volunteer Alberta’s mission through support for strengthening our organizational capabilities to respond to changing organizational and sector needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Update list of contacts that includes all Volunteer Centres & members we work with
• Create content for “Celebrating International Volunteer Day Campaign”
• Create social media posts to be scheduled when campaign goes live
• Create photo campaign to collect images of “volunteers in action”
• Brainstorm about any “enter to win” prize we can give, if feasible and approved
• Research and update current media contact list
• Update media inquiry process and matrix
• Support social media trend monitoring, content development, engagement
• Research and gather content for monthly member newsletter
• Draft and proof content for blog and newsletter
• Support content creation and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
• Support National Volunteer Week reporting – review community reports, analyze and compare data
• Administrative and tactic support for day-to-day communications
• Use Volunteer Alberta’s project management platform to coordinate and track progress
• Supporting other Volunteer Alberta programs and initiatives as required.

Qualifications

• Must meet all of the following requirements (CSJ funding):
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment; and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
• Student in or graduate of a College, University or Institute program where curriculum includes marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant topics
• Any related experience with organizational communications and marketing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and public relations skills, excellent telephone etiquette
• Experience with social media scheduling
• Experience with graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva (Must-have: Illustrator)
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills with MS Office
• High degree of accuracy and the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
• High level of organization skills with attention to detail
• Adaptability and willingness to learn, capacity to quickly learn new software
• Work and/or volunteer in a nonprofit/voluntary sector organization

Condition of Employment

This is a position dependent on government funding. The contract will be terminated if funding is ended before the end of the contract period.
