Westat’s research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.
Job Summary:
Westat is seeking a research assistant to work as part of a team of evaluators, primarily in the areas of public health, equity, housing, homelessness, and other areas. The position is based in our Rockville, MD offices. New employees will work remotely until it becomes safe to return to our offices.
Job Responsibilities:
• Conduct literature searches.
• Support data collection activities including scheduling site visits, preparing for and assisting in key informant interviews and focus groups, and
• preparing web surveys.
• Prepare data for analysis (both qualitative and quantitative), including coding in qualitative and quantitative software.
• Conduct preliminary data analyses (using qualitative or statistical software packages) and graphically representing data findings.
• Assist in the writing of reports.
Basic Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in public health, social sciences is required.
Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; be detail-oriented; and work well in a fast-paced team environment. Some travel may be needed, once it is safe to do so. Strong computer skills are a plus. Experience with statistical software such as SAS and qualitative software such as NVivo or MAXQDA is also a strong plus. Position includes opportunities to participate in scholarly writing and presentations.
