How will you help?

In this Chapter Lead role in the Consumer Segments Tribe, you will provide technical leadership and expertise to the squads, ensuring we build mission critical microservices in-line with modern best practices.

You will also be a leader for your Chapter and work with the community to uplift our craft practice. Delivery is an important aspect of this role, so you will be delivering alongside other engineers working with Product Owners and designers.

You will also have People Leadership responsibilities including growing and supporting the members of your chapter and being involved in planning of upcoming work across tribes and squads. This is very much a role where you will demonstrate effective servant leadership and empower the engineers you work with.

This is a senior role for which we would normally expect several years of relevant experience. We do not have a minimum number in mind as this will vary according to what you have been doing in that time. Quite simply, if this role speaks to you and you feel ready for the challenge, we are eager to talk to you.

For this role you will need experience of:

• Leading teams that specialize in building and maintaining mission critical, high throughput Java Spring Boot microservices.
• Strong software engineering practices; clean code and architecture, unit and automated testing.
• Guiding engineers to build Restful APIs.

Ideally you will also have knowledge and experience of:

• People Leadership. We care about our people and culture. You will not be expected to go it alone and will have a strong community to support you here.
• CI/CD and Devops approach to application development and delivery.
• Security and resilience concerns and patterns
• Containerization tools like Docker, and Container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• Observability and telemetry best practices within distributed systems.
• Banking experience would be a bonus but is not essential.

Additionally, you will bring:

• A proven ability and enthusiasm for learning and exploration that you impart to yourself, and the software engineers you are growing.
• Ability to take ownership of difficult problems and see them through to their resolution, fostering collaboration and buy-in as needed
• Experience of working in agile, cross-functional teams
• A focus on quality, simplification, and best practice
• The ability to communicate with peers and stakeholders from different areas, and at different levels, across the business.
