This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Auditor for our Minneapolis, MN office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
Perform EHS compliance audits, Phase 1 environmental site assessments, and EHS risk assessments.
Provide EHS compliance program support for industrial clients including developing procedures and permits, preparing and submitting periodic regulatory reports, and preparing and delivering EHS training programs.
Prepare written and verbal technical reports, including documentation of audits and field investigations, regulatory research, evaluation of findings, data management and interpretation, and development of graphical and tabular presentation of data.
Manage tasks and projects according to client-approved scopes of work, and delivering high quality reports on time and within budget.
Synthesize large amounts of information contained in regulatory files, environmental permits, and other environmental documentation.
Collect and document field data and observations in a clear and organized manner utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment and workspace monitoring equipment.
Manage and develop client relationships.
Mentor and develop staff.
Determine well-defined data collection methods for identifying and compiling observational, spatial, and environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, reporting, and record compliance and retention.
Perform professional environmental science work and conduct investigations, inspections, and environmental studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular environmental problem or issue, verify site characteristics, and/or to plan for future environmental needs.
Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to address, prevent, control, or restore environmental problems.
Oversee equipment/tool performance and inventory control.
Provide environmental risk identification and impact assessment, offering input with moderate to high-level threat mitigation and permitting activities projects to minimize impacts to the health of the environment and the population.
Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
Assist with overseeing and working with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
Conduct research as appropriate and assist with proposal development.
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
Remain current in latest environmental science subject matter and techniques.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Earth Science.
5 to 7 years of experience working as an environmental scientist and completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, and/or construction monitoring.
Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Earth Science or a related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Experience with evaluating/maintaining EHS regulatory compliance in industrial settings.Experience conducting Phase I environmental site assessments following ASTM International Standard E 1527-13 and ASTM Rural Standard E 2247-16.
Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials.
Participation in an OSHA-mandated medical surveillance program will be required, and safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites.Applicants must be able to wear a full-face respirator.
Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
Self-sufficient, self-motivated and ability to work under pressure of deadlines is essential.
Interest and proficiency in investigative work, with high attention to detail is critical to this position.
Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
Valid US driver’s license.
Travel up to 30% of the time. Must be willing to make trips on short notice, including to local sites, and travel via air or land. Overnight travel is required.
Working knowledge and experience with State and Federal protection regulations, guidelines, and consulting processes pertaining to the specific environmental science position.
Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting agencies.
Demonstrated experience contributing to technical reports, preparing environmental impact evaluations, siting reports, and environmental permit applications, including field surveys and reporting, and resource and impact evaluations.
Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree is preferred.
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
Working knowledge of U.S. environmental laws and regulations, including but not limited to RCRA, CERCLA, SARA, CWA, and CAA, international experience a plus
Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Professional Environmental Auditor, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Material Manager, and/or other related environmental certifications
Experience in air permitting and asbestos management
