This Opportunity
WSP is excited to be offering positions with our Southern States transportation market sector, Transit and Rail Team, which specializes in the planning and design of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects locally and across the nation. Main focus is to collaborate with and become among the nation’s best in the delivery and management of Bus Rapid Transit projects, helping create solutions that meet our clients” objectives and solve their challenges. Become immediately involved on some of the biggest and most exciting BRT projects currently underway in our nation’s biggest transit project markets.
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transit Program Manager for our Nashville or Memphis, TN locations to take a lead role working closely with our client in managing programs and delivering projects.
Your Impact
Act as a technical expert on Streetcar, Light Rail and Bus Rapid Transit projects at all phases, from concept to construction
Provide Project Management on medium to large size projects with opportunity to grow, including contract negotiation and managing to a scope, schedule, and budget
Support larger projects as a Deputy Project Manager, Task Manager, Segment Manager or discipline expert
Aid local offices pursuing or delivering transit projects with technical expertise, including opportunities to travel
Demonstrate your skills to the industry through conference presentations and paper publication
Assist in growing the business by building relationships, writing marketing proposals, providing other business development support, and growing the transit practice
Management of technical staff
Provide oversight with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
Apply high-level transit and rail engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases involving more complex infrastructure and transportation engineering work including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
Oversees the development and implementation of advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality or end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, a modern mobility infrastructure, and implementing future-ready solutions with civil engineering design standards.
Lead larger-scale engineering projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline with a focus in Civil, Transit or Track Design
10+ years of relevant post education experience in Streetcar, Light Rail or track design projects or equivalent
Engineer license
Experience working with local and regional transit agencies; as well as other southern states transit agencies and DOT’s in a design and inspection capacity
Experience in designing and inspecting transit projects
Demonstrates organization and communication skills; managing contracts and task orders
Highly proficient with transit and rail engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build on major infrastructure projects, particularly railway civil works, transit stations, bridges, and elevated structures.
Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management; including project involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and reconstruction, new design, and construction projects.
Strong knowledge of FRA, FTA, CPUC, AREMA, and other rail regulatory standards and procedures, codes, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies
Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Experience in CADD, Microstation, InRoads #LI-KB1
