ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a unique opportunity for a motivated individual to help strengthen YorkNets fibre asset management program.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining spatial data, related attribute data and metadata, and ensures that spatial data meets quality requirements related to Net Designer, YorkNet’s fibre asset management system
- Producing cartographic products and reports
- Assisting in implementing GIS applications
- Documenting and maintaining spatial information management processes and metadata for new and updated databases.
- Supporting YorkNet staff and partners, to ensure their needs for spatial information are met.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates/works with stakeholders and follows the corporate strategic leadership, planning and direction related to this function.
- Records, scans, geo-references and documents as metadata and maintains the asset management system database.
- Digitizes, edits, processes, and annotates spatial and GIS data.
- Performs basic data analysis and spatial querie
- Undertakes data analyses and data conversion.
- Creates and maintains spatial data, related attribute data and metadata, and ensures that spatial data meets quality requirements and for accurate analysis.
- Tests and comments on new processes when in the final development stages and suggests opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Participates on project teams, as required, to support the progress of new and ongoing initiatives/projects.
- Collaborates/works with stakeholders and follows the corporate strategic leadership, planning and direction related to this function.I would like to start with a bullet that describes a task of the position
- Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
- Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a person with experience in asset management and GIS systems, a positive attitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Geography, Environmental Science or related field with emphasis/major on GIS or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Up to one (1) year experience using GIS technology and the creation of basic cartographic products. including web services and applications, and user requirements and/or spatial information management
- Thorough knowledge of GIS software and techniques.
- Working knowledge of relational database systems, spatial databases and data models.
- Experience using Asset Management System and customizing and updating tables based on interpretation of As-Built designs
- Familiarity with cartographic principles.
- Demonstrated ability in the Region’s core competencies.
- Intermediate skills in virtual platforms and MS Office Suite including the use of virtual platforms for conducting meetings and/or presentations.
- Familiarity with cartographic principles.
- Ability to implement applications and apply new technologies with minimal guidance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to connect with a range of internal and external stakeholders while focusing on fostering collaborative work relationships.
- Strong report writing, research, analytical, problem solving and presentation skills and work to tight deadlines.
- Strong ability to develop relationships and work in a welcoming and inclusive environment, where diversity is celebrated and where everyone can develop to their full potential.
- Ability to work independently and with teams and with ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to travel to offsite locations, as required.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
