The Department of Finance has a GradCorps opportunity for a Financial Accountant. The position is responsible for the preparation of the Yukon government’s financial statements, working papers, and various schedules for the annual publication of the government’s Public Accounts. The position:

• Facilitates the supply of required information for the Auditor General of Canada annual audits;
• Provides advice to the Yukon government’s financial staff and management;
• Undertakes various mandate-advancing projects;
• Maintains continuous study/review of Public Sector Accounting Board recommendations for practice changes and contributes to the branch’s determination of potential impact and relevance to the Yukon government context; and
• Contributes to the raising financial capacity with the Yukon government

This position will work for a one-year Term from approximately April 2022 to April 2023. The salary will be 80% of the starting salary – $64,730.

Essential Qualifications

• Experience working with financial statements and/or financial projections is an asset.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

• Familiarity with financial statements/financial projections.
• Ability to review and analyze complex accounting statements and other financial documents.
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with clients and other team members
• Strategic financial analysis
• Ability to meet critical deadlines.
• Good communications skills (written and oral)
• Strong working familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word
