This opportunity…

The Communications Unit is within the Policy, Communications and First Nations branch within Highways and Public Works and it provides support to the department on a wide range of communications issues ranging from:

all communications aspects on multi-million dollar infrastructure projects across the territory;

crisis communications (e.g. major road washouts);

public engagement activities; and

issues that affect every Yukoner.

We are looking for a fearless leader that thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. As the Manager, Communications and Public Relations you will lead a team of 6 communications analysts and provide strategic communications advice and support on a wide range of files ranging from:

working with our municipal and First Nation partners on all communication aspects on multi-million dollar infrastructure projects throughout the Yukon;

planning and leading public engagement activities;

crisis communications; and,

the development of social media strategies, etc.

As a leader, you will mentor and develop the communications team while demonstrating a strong client focus. You will thrive in this role if you have an eye for detail, a creative mind and are a natural problem solver.

Essential Qualifications (what we’re looking for in your resume):

Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field;

Experience planning, developing and executing communication strategies on high-profile projects;

Experience providing strategic communications advice to senior management; and

Experience supervising and managing staff would be an asset.
