Yukon Government Looking for Supervisor – Custody Services at Whitehorse, YT Full Time

This is a permanent full time position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

Youth Justice is looking for a motivated, dynamic leader with strong organizational skills in combination with extensive supervisory knowledge and experience in the management of a youth custody facility.

As the Supervisor, Custody Services you will be responsible for the administration of the Young Offenders Facility in Yukon including safety of young persons, staff and general public by ensuring operations are in compliance with policies and procedures and legislative requirements. You will direct and lead the delivery of effective rehabilitative services which support the care, safety, accommodation and assessed needs of young people in a structured and positive learning environment.

The successful candidate must be committed to promoting a cooperative and productive multi-disciplinary milieu towards the creation of a healthy and rewarding work environment for your staff.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Social Work or Diploma/ Degree in other related Social Science

Experience in youth justice

Experience providing supervision in the management and operation of a facility

Experience working in a cross cultural environment would be an asset

Candidates who have considerable education, training, and experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be considered.

Strong supervision, leadership and performance management skills

Effective conflict resolution skills

Commitment to providing high quality services

Ability to work independently and engage collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team

Excellent and effective organization, communication (both oral and written), and problem solving skills

Additional Information:
Conditions of Employment: Pre-employment Vulnerable Sector RCMP Security Clearance, valid Class 5 Yukon Driver’s Licence or equivalent, TB Screening. Standard First Aid with CPR level C (to be completed within 3 months of hire).

Job Requirements:
This position includes engaging with young people with high risk factors including violence – Safeguards against risk include orientation to incident protocols and debriefing process.
