Job Summary
The General Superintendent is responsible for meeting production goals by effectively managing multiple foremen, subcontractors, equipment, and maintaining safety standards. Coordinates and supervises work activities for all craft disciplines on a large heavy construction project. This position will start out in the San Antonio office and will be assigned an upcoming project in the Central/South Texas region.
Essential Functions
Responsible for an entire department or major segment of a construction project.
Delegates the implementation of policies and practices through subordinate supervisory and management levels. Some budgetary responsibility.
Manage and direct multiple foreman, equipment, and subcontractors to meet production goals and ensure operation is safe.
Create plans and reports that which will be used to update schedules. Create work plans and create 2-week schedule look-aheads.
Set and meet production goals. Communicate plan, safety, and schedule at weekly meetings.
Know plans and specifications well enough to teach and train others.
Operation/method analysis; always look for more efficient and safer ways to perform tasks.
Calculate materials/quantities for ordering purposes. Have knowledge of load charts and rigging. Be able to identify changes in scope.
Build and maintain effective relations with owners, clients, managers, and other employees.
Understand daily cost / monthly cost reports and projections. Review daily reports and daily diaries.
Effectively manage crew, equipment, and other resources.
Report injuries and damages. Take steps to limit vandalism and injuries.
Ensure Zachry Construction Corporation (ZCC) policies are followed. SWPP & EPA compliance.
Have knowledge of working around existing utilities/utility locates. Understand foreman’s responsibilities.
Recruits interviews and hires qualified applicants for available positions.
Involved in all other personnel actions such as promotions, disciplinary and terminations.
Drive a company pick-up truck or similar vehicle to work sites, offices, and other locations as required to perform job duties.
Ensure good housekeeping for the work area, truck, and trailer.
Miscellaneous other duties as required.

Required Skills & Experience
3+ years’ current heavy highway, road and/or bridge construction experience preferred
Experience with medium to large highway road and bridge project experience ($10M+) is required
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline is preferred
Experience with Mobile Timecard a plus
Experience with managing heavy civil foreman and crews
Experience with JV partners, supplier/sub-contractors, clients and owners
Ability to Plan and perform highly complex operations with the ability and authority to make decisions autonomously
Must be capable, licensed, and approved to drive a company pick-up truck or similar vehicle to work sites, offices, and other locations as required to perform job duties
Strong leadership skills
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word
Strong verbal and written communication skills
