Volunteering with Action Tutoring is an easy and rewarding way to make a difference to the lives of young people living in your community. By volunteering and tutoring for just one hour a week, you will be able to directly support disadvantaged young people to build their confidence and help ensure they leave school with the grades needed to build a bright future, as well as developing your own skills.
As an English or maths tutor, you will choose one of our partner schools to volunteer with. You will tutor online, through our virtual classroom. You will work with one or two pupils for an hour a week across the course of a school term. Sessions are delivered at the same time each week. We provide all of our tutors with training and workbooks to use in sessions, and we will also process a DBS check for you.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for professionals/students who want to volunteer their time to support pupils to succeed. Through your experiences and help you can inspire ambition in them. Enthusiasm for learning and the subject you’re tutoring (English or maths) is important (but you don’t have to have studied it for your degree). Experience working with young people is helpful but not essential.
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
You need to be a fluent English speaker, achieved an A or B at A-Level (or equivalent) in the subject, or similar subject, and have or are studying for a degree (in any subject) you are wishing to tutor. Good communication skills, patient, committed and resilient.
We do review all qualifications and experience however and would encourage you to apply – even if you don’t meet the exact criteria.
Benefits
Through tutoring with us our volunteers are able to develop a wealth of transferable skills that employers love (interpersonal, organisational, communication) and whilst making a significant difference. We have worked with students from universities and corporations across the UK. Help your community. Apply today.
We currently have schools in Birmingham and Coventry, Bristol, Chester, Liverpool, Southport and Wirral, London, Newcastle and Durham, Nottingham and Derby, Sheffield and Sussex. You can also join us from any location in England, Scotland and Wales as an online tutor.
