AJM Packaging Corporation is seeking to add an experienced Packaging Engineer to its team. This position is responsible for leading AJMs packaging initiatives supporting Procurement, Operations, Marketing, Planning & Design and Manufacturing. The position reports to the head of purchasing and works independently to design, develop and test packages and packaging materials for multiple products and customers. This position will also support production/manufacturing/quality in the resolution of packaging issues including implementation of new products in to production. Additionally, this position reviews, investigates and resolves current packaging materials for cost reduction and performance efficiencies. Plus, AJM provides company paid vacation days, sick days, and holidays.ResponsibilitiesSupport production/manufacturing in the resolution of packaging issues and implementation of new products into production; investigate and propose cost reduction initiativesManages multiple development projects and prioritizes tasks based on timelines.Delivers effectively in a cross-functional team environment by working with Brand, Planning, Formulation, Procurement, Quality, and many external suppliers and customersInterface with Supply Chain for manufacturing scale-up including line trials, production start-ups, cost savings, and improving line efficiency.Lead development (paper, board, pads, corrugated) and generate specifications of packaging components with Marketing, Design, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality and SuppliersDevelop, design, specify and test all secondary, bulk, and pallet/display packaging for distribution/handling for all AJM customers; stability/compatibility tests to meet agreed upon standards to ensure maximum product quality at minimum costs while meeting internal stakeholder criteria (Sales, Marketing, Distribution, Warehousing, Quality)Conduct Packaging Line Trial tests for all new packaging components and new product developmentAnalyze various secondary packaging designs and associated vendor(s) in order to eliminate inefficiencies, reduce manufacturing costs for each launch programSpecifies and designs product packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and display conditions understands correlation between material performance specifications and final package performanceTests, analyzes, and selects materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness.QualificationsB.S. Degree (Packaging Science, or engineering equivalent) and 7 years experience in the packaging field, preferably in the consumer goods industry (paper converting experience is a huge plus)Must demonstrate understanding of package development process and engineering principles and must possess corrugated packaging and retail packaging experiencePossesses the ability to design and develop primary and secondary packaging components that meet consumer, brand, customer, and manufacturing objectivesMust be able to demonstrate a general understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain packaging commitments to project scheduling.Must understand consumer, business, and category needs and the relationship to packaging decisions & execution.
