Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP), AHS Annual Competencies including ‘It’s Your Move’ and additional courses based on unit expectations, current N95 Fit Test. Experience as a Health Care Aide in an acute medical or surgical unit within the last 2 years. New grads who have completed a final practicum in an acute care setting may be considered. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations. Demonstrates consideration of patient’s comfort, safety, privacy, independence, choice, and dignity. Ability to work collaboratively with team members. Able to handle the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to being on feet for duration of the shift, lifting/assisting up to 50 pounds, turning, safe transferring of adult patients and equipment. Demonstrates and meets appropriate infection prevention and control requirements by following standard practice for all patients, including proper hand washing technique. Strong communication skills; must be able to speak, read, write and comprehend English. Basic knowledge of computers and software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office, Sunrise Clinical Manager).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using mechanical patient lifting devices preferred. Familiar with CoACT & the Collaborative Care Model.
