Supervisor, Instrumental Analysis – Chemical Testing
InnoTech Alberta is seeking a Supervisor for our Instrumental Analysis laboratory within the Chemical Testing division of Innotech Alberta.

Reporting to the Manager of Chemical Testing, the successful incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Supervise the day-to-day operations of our Instrumental Analysis lab
Responsible for leading of lab activities and deliverables, including, but not limited to, timely and accurate reporting of analytical results, adherence to budgets and financial policy, invoicing customers, performing routine data analysis, etc.
Working directly with clients to troubleshoot their technical challenges
Ensure proper performance of instrumentation/equipment by maintenance and/or repairs; this includes coordination and communication with instrument vendors
Develop and evaluate new analytical methods or instrumentation with all key stakeholders including relevant documentation and SOPs.
Operate and maintain instrumentation with adherence to the laboratory quality management system.
Support other activities in the laboratory that enable efficient, balanced, and optimized workloads. This may include routine laboratory tasks.
Conduct business development activities; Identifying work for the team which aligns with the strategic direction of the Division.
Preparation of program and project proposals with key customers to maintain and grow revenues.
Prioritizing requirements and dealing with multiple demands.
Meeting demands of ongoing activities and special projects.
Linking performance metrics to Division and organizational objectives.
Provide consultation on projects within the Division and with others to enhance multi-disciplinary capabilities.
Providing technical support to other intermediate and senior technologists, assistance with method development and validation, and other research & development activities.
Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field; a PhD will be considered an asset.
A commensurate amount of work experience and education may also be considered where appropriate.
5 or more years’ experience in analytical or physical chemistry.
3 or more years supervising people and coordinating resources.
Professional Chemist (P.Chem) designation and registration, or are eligible for registration through the ACPA.
People leadership and interpersonal skills, and ability to coach and mentor a multidisciplinary team.
Experience with mass spectrometric or chromatographic analysis and instrumentation (i.e., GC-MS, quadrupole MS, HPLC, FTIR, ICP-OES, etc.)
Chemometrics expertise will be considered an asset.
Able to problem solve and pay exacting attention to detail
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated initiative
Adaptable and flexible to fast paced and ever-changing environment
Computer knowledge including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Expert knowledge of QA/QC operating environments
Critical thinking ability
