You’re logical, investigative, and detail-oriented – just the kind of person we need at Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) for the role of Medical Laboratory Assistant–Core Chemistry. Core Chemistry is a fast-paced area where multi-tasking is critical. You will process, organize and distribute specimens for laboratory testing and investigation. You are responsible for minor equipment maintenance, preparing specimens for storage or for transport to other facilities and retrieval of clinical samples. The incumbent may contact nursing stations, physicians, clinics and other hospitals and health care facilities regarding specimens. Amongst other duties, pipette calibration verification, thermometer calibration, stocking of supplies, data entry and reporting of second trimester screening results will be a component of this position. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
As Required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a Chemistry Laboratory is strongly preferred. Experience in a Clinical Laboratory environment and knowledge of the Epic Beaker laboratory information system. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry. Experience in inventory control, equipment maintenance and specimen handling is preferred.
