The Role
The People & Culture (P&C) Manager reports to the CHRO and is an integral member of Algoma Steel’s P&C team. The P&C Manager will ensure HR strategies align to support the business strategies and objectives, and will drive value added solutions for projects and initiatives. The P&C Manager will provide coaching and guidance regarding P&C in areas such as policy and procedure while developing trusting relationships with leadership and employees.
Key Role Deliverables
- Executing the implementation of P&C strategies and initiatives that align with Algoma Steel’s business strategy;
- Develop, recommend, and implement process and procedure changes
- Develop, maintain and role model a culture that is open to change and innovation, and supports collaboration, respect and accountability;
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation to ensure adherence to federal and provincial legal standards;
- Create, update, maintain and improve Algoma’s P&C policies and procedures;
- Be an active participant in industry related conferences and educational opportunities and grow industry networks on a professional level;
- Ensure compliance to P&C policies and procedures, as well as employment and labour laws;
- Initiate creative solutions to workforce issues
- Partner with the senior leadership team to implement strategies for employee engagement and retention.
Core Competencies and Skills Required
- University degree or College diploma in Human Resources or Business Administration;
- 7 years HR/LR experience, preferably in a unionized industrial/manufacturing environment;
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) preferred;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Labour/Employment legislation;
- HR experience interpreting and advising on Collecting Bargaining Agreements;
- Sound knowledge of HR Best Practices;
- Strong time management and priorities management skills;
- Analytical and problem solving skills;
- High level of discretion;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Strong business acumen;
- Eager to improve systems and processes;
- Full range of skill and knowledge in P&C generalist duties;
- Project management skills.
This is an exempt position.
