JOB SUMMARY Collaborate with colleagues in the Department to contribute to the scientific literature.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and publish reviews and commentaries on social and environmental factors and policies that impact access to quality cancer care and outcomes
• Analyze health services and environmental data from various public-use databases (including the National Cancer Database, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Environmental Protection Agency) to evaluate the impact of climate change, including extreme weather events, and social determinants of health, including housing stability, on cancer patients.
• Collaborate with colleagues on health services research projects to contribute to scientific literature.
• Identify appropriate statistical methods and a variety of statistical software (SAS, R, MatLab, Stata, as needed) to conduct empirical research.
• Prepare tables and figures for scientific presentations using EXCEL, PowerPoint and/or Origin Lab.
• Document analytic programs and results in an organized, dated, and clearly labeled form for future reference.
• Proofread reports for publication and presentation at professional meetings.
Position Requirements:
FORMAL KNOWLEDGE:
Education in Public Health, Statistics, or Epidemiology.
• Two year experience in statistical, medical, or biologic research.
Other Skills:
• Working familiarity with statistical software (SAS, R, or STATA). Knowledge of basic statistics with good quantitative skills.
• Familiarity with fundamental principles of epidemiology. Good communication skills. Attention to detail with numbers and calculations.
All Interns Must meet the following requirements: •Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college; •Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale); •Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester oNote: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation. The following information must be submitted upon application: • Resume • Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the student’s credentials based on the internship’s skill requirements • Recent transcript attesting to their GPA and standing as a full-time student • Unpaid interns must also provide documentation of the participation in a bona-fide college intern program under which their ACS CAN internship either qualifies them to receive course credit OR fulfills a graduation/coursework requirement.
