Accelerating growth in our consumer deposits portfolio is a critical component of American Express’ strategy to deliver cost-effective, diverse and resilient funding for our bank’s businesses and more broadly support our Card Members’ financial needs. American Express Savings is a digital direct bank offering that has rapidly grown to be the largest source of funding for American Express, with over $65BN of deposits, and the team is focused on driving continued growth by providing our customers differentiated digital consumer banking products and experiences. The Marketing team leads all aspects of acquisition, brand, and loyalty marketing across multiple channels, including paid and organic search, display, paid social, affiliate, email, direct mail, and other owned digital channels.
The Director of Marketing, Digital Consumer Banking is responsible for growing the American Express Savings deposit portfolio by acquiring new customers among American Express Card Members and prospects, and maintaining deposits through strategic loyalty initiatives. This individual will develop and deliver on a cross-channel marketing strategy, drive effective performance marketing grounded in data-driven insights, and lead and develop a team of five while partnering with cross-functional colleagues and external partners including Google, Facebook, and leading marketing agencies.
This high-profile role requires expertise in digital and direct marketing of consumer banking products and a customer-first approach, along with outstanding relationship management skills, to lead marketing and communications strategies in coordination with other American Express banking initiatives. The ideal candidate is a committed people leader with a track record of developing and inspiring diverse teams.
Specific responsibilities include:
Develop a comprehensive cross-channel acquisition strategy and optimize marketing investment to deliver on deposit growth and retention targets.
Identify high-potential channels, targeting, segmentation, and test and learn strategies based on research, data analytics and channel attribution insights.
Nurture close partnerships across the company to integrate Savings marketing into Amex-owned channels, and drive innovation in placements, marketing capabilities and offer constructs.
Lead creative strategy development process with external agencies to develop impactful marketing creative assets that integrate within an overall banking brand platform.
Effectively communicate strategic recommendations and results to senior leadership.
Provide account and deposit acquisition volume forecasts, and partner with Treasury and Operations teams to integrate into funding and operational planning.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Qualifications:
Enthusiastic people leadership with demonstrated ability to develop, engage and empower colleagues and create a highly effective, inclusive culture.
8 years of experience in digital and direct acquisition marketing, with a focus on consumer banking. Proven ability to lead and get results through effective marketing programs.
Strategic thought leadership and analytical skills, comfort setting vision and making decisions based on business needs.
Deep understanding of consumer behavior and digital trends in financial services, including key customer needs and competitor dynamics. Desire to work on innovative and evolving initiatives in the digital banking space.
Passion for designing what great marketing looks like.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with the ability to work with colleagues across different functions and at all levels.
