The Payments Consulting Group is a team of highly trained professional consultants within Global Strategy & Capabilities (GS&C) at American Express. American Express depends on the Payments Consultant team to manage payment processing relationships with managed Merchants and Partners.
Payments Consultants enable card acceptance, identify and implement products, provide technical servicing expertise and champion the voice of the customer to internal teams.
Team members must maintain deep and current knowledge about the payments industry, market trends, new and existing technologies, products and services, and the structure of American Express and customer organizations.
This role demands an experienced and persuasive consultant with analytical skills, thought leadership and a track record of complex problem solving. The right candidate for this opportunity will be a strong, collaborative, self-directed individual who demonstrates the ability to brainstorm solutions as well as execute and drive results. Influence management skills, consensus building, and the ability to work across internal and external partners is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide consultative and product enablement support to Merchants, external partners, internal Account Management and Product teams.
Provide product and process consultancy.
Manage and track projects (Authorizations, Submissions, Settlement, Reconciliation and Disputes enablement).
Project Manage tech enhancement to existing infrastructure in partnership with Technologies, Network, Product Development
Build and maintain relationships across the American Express organization.
Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the Merchant
Know all aspects of merchant’s payment acquiring environment including history, current goals and organizational drivers.
Use knowledge of the merchant and marketplace to develop strategic account plans.
Bring voice of the Customer information to Blue Box regarding capability and product opportunities.
Drive troubleshooting and remediation of merchant payment processing issues.
Liaise and lead internal business partners on delivery of technical solutions.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Strong understanding of card payment authorizations, reconciliation and disputes processes across a range of payment acquiring products and merchant industries.
Proven track record in leading complex projects and driving results.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written, verbal and presentations)
The ability to articulate complex issues in a simple non-technical manner.
Proven relationship building/management skills.
Strong consultative sales skills.
Highly organized and results driven, with strong ability to be forward thinking and proactive.
Ability to build and leverage strong relationships across GMS, Network, Technologies and external partners.
Flexibility to work across time zones with groups in the U.S. and other Intl. Regions (Canada, JPAA, EMEA and LAC)
Potential travel required within U.S.
