As a Tooling Engineer, you will be responsible for creating new component designs and reviewing existing designs for manufacturability and will provide recommendations to Engineering that will improve tool life, quality, and component cost. In addition, you will be responsible for working with both Engineering and Procurement to ensure on-time delivery of new tools, monitoring existing tools for quality of supplied components, and tooling end of life.
What you will do:
Be accountable for acquiring and managing the associated capital tooling for new products from conception through to formal production handoff
Create new designs, review existing designs, and make recommendations that will improve the component manufacturability and cost
Determine tool specifications and requirements by interfacing with manufacturing staff and Engineering to determine the best design for the tool
Work with Engineering and Quality to identify problems with performance or tool life and recommend solutions or enhancements
Manage tool builds with suppliers and within the company supply chain, from component design through the first article approval process
Maintain a database of tools in production and in collaboration with Quality; monitor and improve dies/molds running production components, and make replacement recommendations for tools approaching end of life
What we are looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
5+ years’ related experience
Strong knowledge in tooling design for stampings, castings, and injection molded components
Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD applications
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills
Able to multi-task
Self-motivated, collaborative workstyle
Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Energetic, inquisitive, and has a passion for learning new subjects
Able to travel domestically approximately 10% of the time
