Mobile Adoption Coordinator – Manhattan

The position is based in Manhattan but requires floating regularly to Brooklyn which will transition into Queens-

This position will begin at our Brooklyn Animal Care Center and will be moved in the Spring of 2023 (with the entire Brooklyn team) to our brand new care center at 1906 Flushing Avenue, Ridgewood Queens – just 15 miles from the Brooklyn location. This is a historic opportunity to work at NYC’s first state of the art animal care centers and the first of its kind in the borough of Queens . The space is modern, filled with natural light and has nearly 4 times the space for staff and animals as the Brooklyn care center. During your tenure at the Queens care center, the Brooklyn center will be completely renovated and expanded and you will have the flexibility to consider a position at the new Brooklyn care center once the construction is completed there. Summary

The Mobile Adoption Coordinator is responsible for identifying and coordinating animals for adoptions, media, and outreach events. The coordinator is also responsible for helping to find new event locations and building strong partnerships within the community. This position coordinates mobile and offsite adoption events, working with adopters and volunteers. The Mobile Adoption Coordinator must be comfortable driving 26 ft. truck through the streets of NYC.

Responsibilities

Administrative (40%)

• Identify appropriate animals for off-site adoption, outreach, and media opportunities.

• Work closely with other departments to ensure optimal pathway planning from intake to adoption.

• Coordinate all logistics for selected animals including scheduling behavior assessments, medical, and transport, and securing appropriate photographs for promotion.

• Work with the Foster Team to secure foster placement for animals as needed for media/event opportunities.

• Communicate with all care center departments regarding transportation, medical, behavior and overall placement for media/event animals before and after event.

• Process off-site adoption paperwork at event and upon return to care center. This includes closing animal records, entering microchip/dog license information, processing payments and donations, etc.

  Outreach (25%)

• Manage and strengthen partnerships with different businesses in the community.

• Be a point of contact between ACC and the public by effectively discussing ACC’s mission and the services available through ACC.

• Act as an ambassador for the organization in the community.

• Be able to communicate effectively to a diverse clientele.

  Customer Service (25%)

• Provide exemplary customer service to our adopters by effectively communicating and guiding them through the adoption process.

• Work with adopters to find a good match for their families by accurately communicating the medical and behavioral needs of the pet and supplying them the necessary information and resources to set them up for success.

• Assist adoptions counselors in shelter when needed.

  Other (10%)

• Overseeing routine maintenance of the Mobile Adoption Center which may include bringing the truck to and from scheduled appointments.

• Supervise and provide training for volunteers at events.

• Prepare Mobile Adoption Center for each event. Clean and restock following each event.

• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

  Qualifications

  Comfortable working in a fast paced often high-stress ever changing environment. Customer driven and focused on providing a positive upbeat experience for all clients. A high attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and thrive working in busy environment. Treating animals and people with respect and employ humane handling techniques whenever possible. Work well independently but also function seamlessly as a member of a team. Able to travel to multiple ACC locations and different boroughs for adoption events.

  Education and Work Experience

  High School Diploma or GED required. Prior handling experience for cats, dogs, and rabbits of varying sizes and temperaments preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a 26 ft. truck. Prior experience working in customer service required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.

  At Animal Care Centers it’s all hands-on deck. We work together as a team, which means you may be asked to help with tasks that involve working outside in all sorts of weather. As a busy animal shelter in one of the biggest cities in the world it can get noisy inside. Employees should have the ability to remain calm yet professional in stressful situations involving animals and/or members of the public. Animal Care Centers houses hundreds of animals in its facilities at any given time and with that comes fur, odors and other airborne particles in abundance.

  Animal Care Centers offers many low-cost services to pets and people in need. This includes compassionate end-of-life services for people who cannot afford to go to a private veterinary office but still want to provide a professional and peaceful transition for their beloved pet.
