Strathmore College is recruiting a Tutor to join our Teaching team now! We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and committed tutor who will expand the learning experiences and provide tuition for small groups of young people, which allows for full engagement and ensures that the program of learning meets the needs of the individual. You will have experience teaching the national curriculum across primary and/or secondary within Special Educational Needs. The successful candidate will be teaching and supporting our young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs.

Strathmore College is a residential and day college in Stoke on Trent, situated on excellent transport links to the college directly and within the wider community. The college provides educational provision for learners aged 16-25 years who have mild to severe learning difficulties, emotional, social and behavioural difficulties/disability which include Downs Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, speech and language difficulties coupled with other health related, mental or physical difficulties. The learner’s needs are increasingly more complex, with a number of learners who were NEET and those who were finding engaging in education and learning challenging. The College uses meaningful, practical learning activities to engage and motivate learners.
The role will include:
You will be working up to 25 hours per week for 44 weeks per year.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of teaching the national curriculum, as well as teaching and supporting young people within SEN schools, along with the following characteristics:

Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.
Organisation – You will have experience of organising, planning and teaching well-structured lessons tailored to the needs of the pupils as well as monitoring each students learning needs, adapting teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of each pupil.
Caring – Our young people require the best care we can offer. If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.
Attentive – No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand the needs of the young people we support is vital
