CLIENT JOB DESCRIPTION: The Staff Accountant is responsible for many of the daily tasks involving General Accounting and Financial Reporting functions, including General Ledger, A/R and A/P. They are responsible for tracking, aggregating, and analyzing financial data related to the company, as well as, preparing necessary reports and information for management to make proper financial decisions. Responsibilities/Duties: • Monitors general ledger activity and ensures proper balances from subsidiary ledger. • Maintains the general ledger by entering approved journal entries when necessary. • Manages the accuracy of transactions related to cash, sales, inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and expenses. • Participate in month-end close, preparing monthly closing entries, analysis and reconciliation of certain asset and liability accounts. • Collaborating monthly with Operations and appropriate team members to compile and complete month-end data. • Maintain monthly fixed asset schedule including procedures for capitalization, depreciation, and year-end disposals. • Maintain monthly prepaid asset schedule including the forecasted amortization for the current year. • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts to ensure accuracy of cash balances. • Perform monthly reconciliation of all other balance sheet accounts including analysis, investigation, and resolution of differences in subledger to trial balance. • Diagnose accounting problems when identifying significant variances and fluctuations. • Provide support for external audits by preparing schedules, gathering reports with supporting documentation, and researching and responding to audit questions in a timely manner. • May assist with budget preparations through research, expense analysis, and document retrieval. • Prepares monthly financial reports in accordance with GAAP including income statement, budget vs. actual variance reports, and supplementary reports to present current financial performance and position. • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data. • Strengthens job knowledge by staying updated with best practices in accounting and participating in educational opportunities. • Contributes to the development of accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes for improvement. • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed. • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential. • Performs other duties, ad-hoc reporting, and assignments as needed.
