Beyond Basics Hiring for Reading Tester at Detroit, MI Full Time

Founded in 2002, Beyond Basics is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to eradicate illiteracy, transforming the lives of students and creating stronger communities. Our one-on-one, multisensory tutoring program helps students achieve grade-level proficiency in reading in an average of six weeks. In addition to our structured literacy interventions, we cultivate curiosity and encourage a love of lifelong learning with fine arts activities that expand horizons.

The Reading Tester will play a critical role in helping Beyond Basics achieve its vision to provide effective literacy programs. The Reading Tester will be responsible for scheduling and conducting literacy assessments. This position is a part time role, with an uneven schedule. Scheduling hours are more significant at the beginning and end of each semester, and scheduling hours are lower during the middle of the semester. This position tends to be an excellent fit for retired educators who have an interest in staying involved with students on a part time basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Schedule Reading Tests in partnership with Literacy operations, so that the Reading Tester can enter the schools and conduct the assessment in partnership with other classroom activities
• Conduct the diagnostic assessments for students testing into the Beyond Basics structured literacy program, and then test those same students out of the program after the cycle as completed to allow the organization to better assess advancement and effectiveness of tutoring
• Enter assessment data into the corporate database for more effective tracking
• Perform additional tasks as needed to support the assessment team
