BGC Ottawa is seeking applications for a Camp Support Staff, Maintenance and Facilities position. This position reports to the Camp Manager. The successful candidates will be working out of our Camp Smitty location in Eganville.
The Camp Support Staff, Maintenance and Facilities position will undertake a leading role in the maintaining of Camp Smitty buildings and its surrounding areas. This position will complete and track repair work, keep buildings, grounds and any equipment or machines housed at Camp Smitty in working order. This position also carries responsibilities in the areas of capital maintenance and management, supervision of external contractors and general repairs and landscaping.

*Camp Support Staff, Maintenance and Facilities (1 Position)*
Major Responsibility 1: Oversee the maintenance of the Camp Smitty buildings, including the log home
– Conducting routine maintenance on equipment and buildings
– Ensure safe and clean facility locations
– Maintain facilities that are both safe and clean for our members, volunteers, staff, and visitors
– Ensure the buildings are properly repaired and maintained, including equipment, electrical components, audio & visual systems, plumbing, painting, window cleaning, and more
– Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety requirements and inspections with the Joint Health and Safety Committee
– Ensuring all safety systems are functioning properly, including smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
– Pest control
– Perform inventory on required work and equipment
– Detecting, identifying and repairing building issues
Major Responsibility 2: Grounds keeper
– Cutting grass regularly
– Pruning shrubs, trimming bushes, and adding fertilizer to maintain growth
– Chopping and piling firewood for log home
– Watering plants and lawn as needed
– Using and maintaining landscaping equipment such as mowers, clippers, and blowers, among others
Major Responsibility 3: Administrative documentation and reporting
– Coordinate and oversee approved renovation projects at Camp Smitty
– Responsible for procurement of service contracts and agreements (snow removal etc.)
– Effectively communicate with Camp Manager regarding upcoming maintenance and inspections taking place
– Maintaining records of work and inspections done on premises
Education:
– Proven maintenance experience
– High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Related degree from a technical college.
– Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
*Required knowledge, skills and abilities: *
– Experience working in facilities management in a community and child/youth-friendly environment considered an asset
– Experience in managing cleaning services and or environmental services teams or contracts within institutional type environments
– Knowledge of facilities maintenance, utilities, housekeeping operations
– Knowledge of smart building practices
– Familiarity with the OH&S, Building/Fire/Safety/Environmental Codes and Regulations
– Experience handling contract mediation and negotiation skills with multiple stakeholders
– A demonstrated track record of being proactive, solutions-oriented, operating with a sense of appropriate urgency, and a high degree of flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations is desired
– Knowledge of and sensitivity to child and youth developmental factors and community issues and how they are impacted by physical environments
– A strong background in building mechanics
– Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency
– Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
– Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
– Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and be long term goal oriented
