Assistant Editor, Academic Editorial (Student Learning)

The opportunity

Bloomsbury Academic publish high quality print and digital resources for the student textbook market. We are looking for an Assistant Editor to join our friendly higher education publishing team.

Reporting to the Publishing Manager, the Assistant Editor will have the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting books in the social sciences. This is a rewarding role for someone with some publishing experience who is seeking to take the next step in their career.

The role

• Planning, project managing and coordinating titles through all stages of the publishing process
• Conducting market research, including peer reviewing
• Drafting cover briefs, and writing and editing cover and marketing copy
• Preparing typescripts for handover to production, and arranging for digital ancillaries, as required
• Liaising with authors, and colleagues across all departments
• Assisting with backlist management
• Providing input for sales and marketing activities
• Assisting the publishing manager, as required

Knowledge, skills and experience

The ideal applicant for this role will be:

• familiar with publishing processes, and have publishing experience;
• interested in publishing systems and processes;
• comfortable with managing complex projects;
• able to multi-task and prioritise;
• organised and focussed on problem-solving;
• meticulous, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy;
• an excellent communicator;
• confident to work unsupervised;
• professional and have a can-do attitude; and
• numerate and computer literate.

Additional information

The role is a full-time permanent position.

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesday and Thursday
