Norwich University of the Arts is committed to being an inclusive community that offers equality of opportunity and enables our staff and students to flourish and succeed, regardless of their background or personal circumstances. Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is embedded in everything that we do. We celebrate the diversity of our backgrounds, cultures and actions, promoting art and design as a catalyst of social change. As such, we are champions for the creative arts; empowering all of our students to be valued and productive members of society, with ambitions to change the world.
We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Student Support Advisor (with a focus on Student Finance) to join a busy and expanding Student Support team.
The team provides information, advice, and guidance to students on money and funding, disability, general wellbeing, mental health, and accommodation. NUA students are mainly young undergraduates aged 18-23, with over 30% disclosing a specific learning difference or other physical or mental health disability. Over 13% of our students identify as Black, Asian or from another minority ethnic group.
Working flexibly, you will find ways to effectively promote the Student Support service to our diverse student body. You will provide information, guidance, and support to students either individually or in groups, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained where appropriate. Building positive relationships with university colleagues will be essential to the success of this role.
You will also respond to email enquiries and act as a first point of contact for students accessing the Student Support services with a focus in student finance and funding support. You will support the wider team through a range of administrative tasks, as well as carrying out administration tasks to support your own role.
Working within a small, hardworking team, teamwork is a key attribute which requires a flexible approach. Working pattern may vary slightly in response to changes in demand throughout the academic year. This can occasionally include evening and weekend working.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience of delivering a confidential service. You will have experience of working with service users on a one-to-one and group basis and thinking creatively to identify options.
You will be highly organised and able to plan and prioritise work effectively in an environment with multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks. You will maintain accurate records and be a proficient user of Microsoft Office.
